Diamond Clarity

Sep 23,2025 | VOOGME

When shopping for lab-created diamonds, clarity is one of the most important features to understand. Just like natural diamonds, lab-grown diamonds can have inclusions (internal marks) or blemishes (surface marks). These tiny characteristics are formed during the diamond’s growth process, whether in nature or in a laboratory.

Why Clarity Matters

Clarity affects how light travels through a diamond and influences its brilliance. The fewer inclusions and blemishes a diamond has, the more valuable and rare it is considered. However, many inclusions are so small that they are not visible to the naked eye, meaning you can choose a stone that looks flawless without paying for the highest grade.

The Clarity Scale

Lab-created diamonds are graded using the same internationally recognized clarity scale as mined diamonds, developed by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA):

  • FL (Flawless) – No inclusions or blemishes under 10x magnification.

  • IF (Internally Flawless) – No inclusions; only minor surface blemishes under 10x magnification.

  • VVS1, VVS2 – Extremely small inclusions, very difficult to see under magnification.

  • VS1, VS2 – Minor inclusions, still invisible to the naked eye.

  • SI1, SI2 – Noticeable inclusions under magnification, sometimes visible to the naked eye.

  • I1–I3 – Inclusions easily visible, affecting sparkle and durability.

Choosing the Right Clarity for Lab Diamonds

For most shoppers, VS1–SI2 clarity grades provide the best value. These diamonds typically appear “eye-clean,” meaning inclusions cannot be seen without magnification, while offering a more accessible price than flawless or VVS stones. Higher grades like FL or IF are exceptionally rare, but they are not necessary for a diamond to look beautiful.

Certified Clarity with Voogmechic

At Voogmechic, all of our lab-created diamonds come with IGI certification (International Gemological Institute). Each certificate details the clarity grade, along with other factors like cut, color, and carat. This ensures complete transparency and gives you confidence in the diamond you choose.
