How to Measure Ring Size at Home

Not sure about your ring size? Try these three easy methods to find your perfect fit at home.

1. DIY Ring Sizer Method

What You’ll Need

  • Printer and paper

  • String, yarn, floss, or a thin strip of paper

  • Pen or marker

  • Ruler

Steps

  1. Cut a piece of string, yarn, floss, or a thin strip of paper about three inches long.

  2. Wrap it around the base of the finger where you plan to wear the ring.

  3. Mark the point where the end overlaps with the rest of the string or paper.

  4. Lay it flat and measure the length from the end to the mark using a ruler in millimeters.

  5. Compare this measurement with the Ring Size Conversion Chart to find your ring size.

2. Print a Ring Sizer

What You’ll Need

  • Printer and paper
  • Scissors

Steps

  1. Print the Printable Ring Sizer and Conversion Chart. Make sure your printer settings are set to 100% scale and use standard 8.5 × 11 inch paper.

  2. Carefully cut out the ring sizer and the slit following the instructions on the page.

  3. Wrap the paper sizer snugly around the base of the finger you want to measure, keeping the numbers visible. Insert the pointed end through the slit.

  4. Check the number that aligns with the slit. That number indicates your ring size.

3. Measure an Existing Ring

What You’ll Need

  • Printer and paper

  • Scissors

  • A ring that fits the intended finger

Steps

  1. Print the Printable Ring Sizer and Conversion Chart. In your print settings, select 100% scale and use standard 8.5 × 11 inch paper.

  2. Choose a ring that already fits the finger you want to measure.

  3. Place the ring over the size circles on the chart and find the one that best matches the inside edge of the ring.

Finding the Perfect Ring Fit

A well-fitting ring should glide over your knuckle with gentle resistance and rest comfortably on your finger without feeling tight. You should notice a slight snugness, but it shouldn’t require excessive effort to put on or take off.

When You're Between Sizes

If your measurement falls between two sizes, we recommend choosing the larger one. Fingers naturally swell and shrink throughout the day, and a ring that’s too tight can be uncomfortable or difficult to remove. For a more precise fit, we also offer quarter-size adjustments on karat gold and platinum rings—just reach out to us, and we’ll help you find your ideal size.

Ring Size Tips

Before choosing your perfect ring, measure the hand you plan to wear it on. Your dominant hand is usually slightly larger, so it’s best to use that as a guide.

  • Consider the design of your ring. Wider bands feel tighter, so for chunky rings over 4mm, size up by at least half a size. Very thin bands under 1.3mm may require sizing down. Remember, ring sizes are measured in millimeters, not inches.
  • Make sure your fingers are at a normal body temperature, as they shrink when cold and expand when warm. Finger size can also change throughout the day depending on food and water intake, so measuring in the middle or later part of the day is most accurate.
  • If your knuckle is pronounced, measure both the knuckle and the base of your finger. Choose a size between these two measurements so the ring can slide over the knuckle comfortably while fitting snugly at the base.
