Differences between K Gold and Gold Plated

Aug 19,2022 | VOOGME

When it comes to gold jewelry, we often hear that there are solid gold, k gold, and gold plated. We all know solid gold is actually 24k gold. But for other k gold, such as 10k gold, 14k gold and 18k gold, and gold plated, there are many people who are not clear. So today we are going to tell you what is different between k gold and gold plated.
First of all, k gold is an alloy made by mixing gold and other non-ferrous metals. Due to the different proportions of other metals added, it is divided into 24k gold, 22k gold, 18k gold, and 14k gold, which is usually available in colors of white, yellow, and rose, except for 24k gold always in yellow. For instance, 18k gold is composed of 75% pure gold and 25% other non-ferrous metals.
K gold is a precious metal alloy, while gold plated is a technique, which is the essential difference between them. Professionally speaking, gold plated can be divided into two categories, one is homogeneous material gold plating, and the other is heterogeneous material gold plating.
The purpose of gold plating is to improve the brightness and color of jewelry. Homogeneous material gold plating refers to the gold plating on the surface of gold jewelry, such as 18k gold jewelry with another layer of 18k gold plating, so that the jewelry luster is better and more durable. Heterogeneous material plating refers to the surface plating of non-gold materials, such as gold-plated silver and gold-plated copper, which are common in our life. Its function is to replace the color of the plated metal with the luster of gold, so as to improve the ornamental effect of the jewelry.
In order to enhance the ornamental value and long-lasting of the jewelry, the silver pieces provided by VOOGME are all plated with 18k gold as we aim to offer our customers high-quality jewelry at an affordable price.
